This coat is made from twenty prefelt squares. Each square is made from wool tops and decorative fibers. You can use viscose or bamboo, these are the best, although tussah silk can also be used. You will need about 700 gram of wool and 250-300 gram of decorative fibers. These squares are then felted together. This project is very easy, it's like a LEGO game. First, you make squares. Then, you fill the template with these squares, arranging them in a nice way. Then, you felt the coat using the electric sander (the instruction for using the sander is attached). Do not worry about the sander, you need to use it only for 20-30 minutes, but it helps a lot. Then, you add a facing, using only felting techniques. No sewing! You felt the coat to the perfection and then add pockets and buttons.

- Patternmaking tools, like rulers, curves, and paper, pencils and permanent marker
- Plastic sheeting for making template for felting

- Merino wool 19 mkm in tops, appr.700 gram

Elena will explain how to construct custom patterns for felted garment. You can use this basic knowledge for making your own coats and jackets.
Elena makes a set of beautiful prefelt squares. 50X50 centimeters (20 inches).
Elena shows how to make two front parts of a seamless coat. There are a lot of small secrets, like enhancing lines etc.
Elena shows a very simple way to make a felted facing. You do not requite sewing at all, everything will be hand-felted.
Elena makes the sleeves on a double template. It is a very good idea; it is a guarantee that the sleeves will be the same size.
Elena prefers patch pockets for felted garments. She makes them separately and sews them to the place after felting and fulling of the whole garment.
The details of the coat are dry now. As you may see, the coat is not fulled yet. Now, Elena marks the main construction lines: sidelines, middle of the front parts, middle of the back and shoulder lines. Elena performs a serious quality control. There are some defects which still can be repaired. Then, she attaches the sleeves.
Elena starts the fulling process and brings the coat to the final size.
Elena rinses the coat, spins it and then let it dry. After all, she steam-irons the coat thoroughly and adds buttons or press-studs. You may also add silk lining using classical technique (not shown in this video).
